Victor made everything for us to be comfortable in his room. The bed was really good, also we have smart TV with Netflix but completely no power to use it after 6 hours driving. The balcony was also cozy. I was amazed that we get not only towel but also new toothbrushes and other things. Victor thought about it. I think he likes to have guests from different places and countries so you will feel it.
This was our first Airbnb experience and it was wonderful! Fern's hospitality was beyond what we could have imagined! She's such a sweetheart! The house is also great. The front yard is like a giant fairy garden and the house is a cute old farmhouse style. We couldn't have asked for a better host or better first airbnb experience!
The host was very welcoming and hospitable but we did have a few concerns. We understood that this was pet friendly and we were okay with that as long as the bedding and room was free of pet hair, which we were advised was correct.
But unfortunately, the pet odors in the room were very noticeable. We also found it very difficult to have a proper shower due to the location of the shower head. That being said, it was a great value! I only stayed one night at Fern's place, but it was very comfortable and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The location of Fern's place and her communication with us was excellent. We had no problems at all with checking in or finding the house. Our only complaint is the odour of the house, probably from all the pets who were extremely adorable though!
Fern graciously waited up for our arrival at The room was large and there were three options for beds though only one had sheets.
The bed pictured did not work for me but one of the futons offered more support. Haggai and Eric are great hosts. They did a great job with communication as well as accomdating our needs. I would reccomend this Airbnb location to any and everyone. We had a wonderful stay. It is in a very nice location, couple cute places to eat within walking distance! The apartment was very clean, fast WiFi and a super cool smart TV!
Mike was very hospitable! The room was nice and clean. Good communication from the host and a great value for a weekend stay. I'm glad this was available in a place that has few hotel rooms available. Free parking was available. Close by food places, Walmart and other little stores. Host was very nice and had the room ready for us even though it was short notice. Would definitely stay again if in the area. A good size apartment and very clean and comfortable. Right on the main road, so easy to find.
Check in was very simple, and I would definitely recommend this space. Tight squeeze in bathroom, but shower was excellent. Hospitality and value were fantastic! Would stay again if ever in the area. Gracious and kind hosts. Great as a single and for a family.
Michael and Sherry were wonderful hosts providing great advice on local amenities. The upstairs apartment was very clean with two bedrooms and everything you would need to make meals. Felt like home away from home.
Centrally located to easily get around the city. Very good for families. A comfy place to lay your head and find rest. If you enjoy turn of the century aesthetics, this home is perfection. We had a great and comfortable time at this charming apartment, lots of space and very clean. Our hosts were very welcoming and open to any questions. We strongly recommend the place and would be happy to visit again. These are some super wonderful hosts. They enjoyed getting to know us as we checked in a little bit.
Gave us some nice suggestions for places to go during our trip. Pretty centrally located to get to downtown if that is where you need to go. My group of the were comfortable and enjoyed our stay and would gladly book with them again. A quiet, safe and roomy apartment. Excellent hot water shower. An amazing value for the four of us.
If you choose to park on the street, note alternate side parking sign on corner of block or you could get a ticket overnight! I recommend this place for any one coming to Syracuse. The host will make sure you have nice and quite stay. I stayed here with my family and she make sure that we have what we needed she even installed tv for the kids to watch.
She is very fast responding to any questions or concerns. More spacious than appears in pictures. Open floor plan with large bedrooms. Beds are super comfortable. She gave great tips to my friends and l about a few local restaurants and was super nice! She was a great host and always made sure everything was good at the house! Would definitely stay here again! Right near the Landmark Theatre. Great space with a nice kitchen. Lacking in utensils and the upstairs was a bit messy.
The hot water also did not work in the bathtub. Overall, a lovely home. Will definitely stay here again! Liming was very understanding with our check in needs and worked with us to help us out.
Perfect place for a long-term stay as well as short-term. Really kind and professional host. Bus stops are right beside the house. Nice home and great host. However, the rooms were hot upstairs with no AC or fans.
Walls are really thin so you could hear everyones conversation. Also be aware of the shared bathroom situation. Beautiful house on the lake! It is an older home with lots of character and unbelievable views! Sadly we weren't able to swim because of the algae in the lake and also had to drink bottled water, but hopefully that won't continue to be an issue.
We would definitely stay again and it comfortably fit 7 of us in town for a wedding. The house was exactly as described and was perfect for our girl's weekend. Everything we needed was provided and Erin was very quick to respond to all questions. The weather did not cooperate for our stay so we didn't get to enjoy the beautiful deck, we hope to rent her house again when the weather is nicer so we have a chance to enjoy it.
Thank you Erin, we enjoyed our weekend. Lovely neighborhood and I felt very secure there even tho alone for three days. Loved I could have my small dog there and lovely waking areas surround the house.
Finding the entrance road off Rt. Believe your GPS and slow down. Erin remains friendly, responsive, and accommodating. This year, we especially appreciated how easy the house was to toddler-proof! A few zip ties on cabinet doors and deck gates, and we were all set. Great location on the lake, beautiful property and house, and a fantastic deck!!
Loved our stay, and hope to be able to go back next year!! Would recommend this house to anyone. Erin was also great and responded to all communications quickly. Erin is a wonderful host and the house was perfect!
Clean, cozy, and in a gorgeous spot. The decks out back are incredible, with sunny and shady spots available all day. The lake was surprisingly quiet, not a lot of motor boats driving by all day.
The kitchen was well stocked and there were plenty of towels and sheets for our entire group. We grilled, swam off the dock, read on the porch, and celebrated all weekend -- we definitely want to go back. Erin was a very hospitable host. She communicated fast and was very helpful. The place was beautiful and near a nice town. The view from the place was also amazing. Would recommend to anyone! Carlos and Marissa are wonderful hosts with an awesome space. They were friendly and check-in was a breeze.
Space is great and clean! The apartment is quite spacious. Not a lot of frills but the thoughtful touches for a longer stay are all there. The hosts are amazing people. This little getaway met way beyond our expectations! We were so happy here not only for the level of comfort but it is one of the nicest and safest neighborhoods we've ever stayed.
We walked the neighborhood several times with so much to see around the developments. Carlos and Marissa are wonderful, friendly, open to meeting new people and their children were very respectful to others.
The work and attention put into their home and the welcome feeling you get is amazing! Well worth the price and times better than staying at a hotel.
The home was definitely set up for longer stays as well, fully furnished with additional items set up for daily needs. Syracuse has a lot to do in the area and the stay here was a gem in itself! We are new to Air BnB site, but know quality when we see it! We cannot say enough about how well the stay went and would come back in a heartbeat! Thank you Carlos and Marissa!
Hands down one of the most amazing, cozy, and comfortable airbnb's I have ever stayed in. It has everything you could possibly think of and need. The hosts are extremely friendly they made sure i was correctly settled in and then left me my complete privacy. Everything is spick and span and the attention to detail does not go unnoticed. Thank you Marissa and Carlos for hosting me, good luck with your new house and airbnb rentals!
Hope everyone that stays there puts in their share of work to keep this place as clean and homey as possible. Best regards, Roy from Canada.
Carlos and Marissa are super nice! There place is lovely, nice and quiet, minutes from everything in Syracuse. The price is unbeatable, and still worth every penny. If you're looking for somewhere clean, quiet, conveniently located, and that won't brake the bank, this is it. It's an all around win, absolutely no complaints!
Nice place to stay especially if you needed a stop at the middle of your trip from Canada to New York city. This was a great place to stay and was super cozy! I will be staying here again for sure and enjoyed my time!
The space is conducive to meeting other people and Fern's personality certainly makes it easy to strike up a conversation! Each room also comes stocked with tea and ample snacks, which is a nice bonus. My first Airbnb experience and it was a great one. Fern was home and even upgraded us to a larger room. We also had a great talk with Fern about traveling in Germany and Europe and her daughter was very precocious.
Met Fern's other guest and had a great talk as well. Exactly what I needed. Fern was great and always replied quickly. Really helpfull as I was checking in late coming from a late flight. Fern was a wonderful host and we were very grateful to have found her. She was very flexible with our late arrival time and provided everything we could have asked for. Our stay was short but enjoyable.
Great, convenient place in downtown Syracuse. Communication with host is excellent. It can be loud in the morning from the street street cleaners started around so if you are a light sleeper or need more rest this may not be helpful. Situated in a very beautiful area with lots of cute shops, restaurants and pubs! Just as shown in the pictures!
The courtyard is beautiful and this place is located near destiny usa! Home was very clean upon arrival and we had no issues inside the home. Was within walking distance to many restaurants, bars and a few couple brew pubs. Dinosaur BBQ was great food. Starbucks was just a few steps away. Overall, just a great location downtown Only half a mile from The Oncenter convention center which was very convenient for us.
The space was stylish, clean and well lit. Waleed was easy to reach and helpful. The location of the space is the highlight, close to pubs, restaurants, etc. Self-check in was super easy. Waleed replies very quickly. I had no issues whatsoever. I would thoroughly recommend this place to anyone staying in Syracuse and I would happily return. Waleed was very responsive, the apartment was in a great location, very clean and very comfortable, and we enjoyed the stay. My only criticism is that it was advertised as a "two bedroom", but technically didn't have two bedrooms.
The sleeping areas were separate and it served our purposes fine, but if we had wanted two separate rooms with privacy, we might have been disappointed. Armory Square has some of the best night spots in town and getting around town is really easy from there. Sue was an excellent host. She was there to welcome me when I arrived and give me the layout of the space. I had the entire basement floor to myself which included a small living room area and half bath in addition to the bedroom area.
Very clean, spacious, and comfortable. She also left out a basket full of snacks and a mini fridge with waters and some other drinks which was a very nice touch. She does have cats, however, there is a screen to prevent them from coming into the downstairs area. You also have to venture upstairs to the main living area in order to use the shower which was not a big deal for me.
I was only there for one night but I enjoyed my stay. Sue was not around when we arrived but everything was perfectly organised and her neughbour Marc welcomed us very friendly.
The rooms are nice and clean with own Separate toilet. The neighbourhood is so nice and we had a great breakfast at Suzies Diner. The accommodation was as described. Sue directed us to places to eat. Very kindly drove to restaurant and we followed her so we didn't get lost. Sue is a wonderful host and responded to my inquiry immediately. She answered all my questions and opened her house to me.
Both rooms are very comfortable and very clean. If I ever needed anything, it was extremely easy to get a hold of Sue by text or a call. House is in a very nice neighborhood, making my stay in Syracuse extremely easy.
I'm so lucky that my sister found her, I can't imagine staying anywhere else. It's a home away from home Thank you so much Sue!! Sue's place is very attractive, comfortable, and inviting.
It is extremely convenient for the NY State Fair and amphitheater performances. Sue is engaging and gracious, providing snacks and even offering a ride to the amphitheater for the performance we were attending. I highly recommend staying at Sue's place. Sue was very friendly when greeting my boyfriend and I. The space where we stayed was clean and big, more than enough space for the two of us.
She had cats, which I loved, and they were very loveable. She left lots of snacks for us to choose from and drinks too. I loved the privacy of the space also. Good location and good price! Made for an enjoyable stay. Sue was very helpful with check-in, even though we were later than expected. The room was clean and tidy and everything was as advertised. I stayed long-term 4 months with Fern and had a great experience.
Fern was an excellent host and very responsive. Her place is in a safe and quiet location, and Fern was very hospitable and accommodating throughout my stay. I would recommend her to anyone visiting the Syracuse area. We had a wonderful stay at Franks converted barn. It was a beautiful and peaceful setting. Having a grill outside made it easy to prepare meals.
The location is in easy driving distance to wine country and the fingerlakes. Franks Antique shop has many nice pieces, and we found ourselves leaving with a beautiful oak table. Luckily, the neighbor was outside and she kindly called Frank for me.
He arrived within minutes, helped me get settled into the place and showed me the ins and outs. My daughter and I stayed in the lower room. It was very rustic and just like the pictures showed. I was surprised how comfortable the bed was. You definately stay here because of the outside beauty. It was so peaceful to sit outside and enjoy the scenery. I walked the mowed paths for hours and enjoyed the time away from the hustle and bustle.
Frank's apartment was one of the most unique and satisfying trips in my entire Airbnb experience. Be careful; you won't want to leave.
The apartment itself is impeccably clean and beautifully furnished. Frank has somehow managed a marriage of luxury and reflection; seclusion and warmth; nature and comfort in this perfect vacation spot.
As a host Frank was more than kind, he generously and patiently dealt with a few technical difficulties related to the website and made perfect last-minute arrangements. He was quick and helpful with all requests even fielded my phone call at 11pm on Saturday! This is a highly recommended airbnb. The space has a wonderful warmth and a cozy charm that is both rustic and comfortable. I spent three days here with my girlfriend and it was a wonderful winter getaway. The place is quiet and secluded, but close enough to town that you can easily drive in for a nice meal or some local shopping.
Thanks for a lovely stay. This place was comfy and private, excellent for a little getaway trip. We loved our time at the Granary, it was such a peaceful place to unwind. The apartment is lovely, and the farm is beautiful, especially in the evening. We met both JaLaine and Frank and they were both helpful and kind. The farm is about 10 minutes outside Skaneateles, which is a charming little village to explore.
We brought our dog, and after one night of being perplexed by the pond frogs, he really settled into the place and loved exploring the grounds. All told, we'd highly recommend this place as a getaway. I would note, however, that the pictures on the listing are slightly misleading. The apartment is not as secluded as some of the photos suggest, and while we still had ample privacy, the apartment is on the ground floor beneath other tenants and down the hill from another residence.
I had a very nice experience here. Ja'Laine was as nice as could be and showed me around when I arrived. I stayed in an upstairs room in the barn. It was neat because you go in through an inside entrance which is an old antique shop that they rarely open anymore. The cabin definitely has a rustic charm and is a wonderful change of pace from the chain hotels.
As long as you aren't expecting a 5 star luxury resort going in, you'll have a wonderful time. Nice condo very clean. The bed in the bedroom was too soft. It had a foam topper on it. My husband couldn't sleep on it. Great location, very Clean and quiet.
Excellent parking, and everything we needs to enjoy a few days in Syracuse. Gail is great about keeping in touch with you and making sure that you are comfortable and satisfied with your stay. We will definitely being staying there the next time we are in Syracuse! Do not pass up the gem of a property, you will not be disappointed.
Gail's place was much greater than expected, everything was clean and nice. Gail communicated with us in a timely manor. If we're in the area again we would not hesitate to stay there again. Gail is a great host. Quick response to any questions we had. It was a great first time experience.
Gail's Condo, it was a cozy, and provided everything we needed to relax after a long day. The condo is in a great location everything was only 10 minutes! Nicole's place is just as pictured. Everything we needed was provided, from toiletries to towels to coffee to AC! There was a fridge and microwave in the room, so we were able to keep some leftovers from dinner and have it the next day.
Bijuu was super friendly we gave her super lots of pets and Emma was such a cutie! Would definitely stay again. She had everything laid out and all the fine little details to make sure our stay was as welcoming and easy as possible. It is clear she puts a lot of thought into, and takes a lot of pride in sharing her home. The only thing we found was that the bed was not for us; a bit creaky and uncomfortable.
But, again, that was just for our preference. We would recommend a stay without any hesitation! We had such a lovely stay at Nicole's. She's very friendly and accommodating! Gave me some great tips about what to see and was incredibly helpful in general.
Highly recommend staying here! I was just passing through for the night to break up a long road trip but I so enjoyed my stay. Easy check in and a very cute dog to greet you!
Nicole was very accomodating, letting us stay the same night as requesting. Place was very clean and Nicole provided all the essentials. Darya's place provided a very comfortable stay and studio was bigger than expected so that was a bonus.
Check in was easy and the only small issue we had was the TV remote was broken but a quick call and all was fixed in 10 minutes so couldn't ask for better service.
Place was very clean; in the add it was mentioned that kitchen had minimal accessories but there was enough to get by. My only suggestion would be to put in a toaster. Overall would definitely recommend and would stay here again. Amazing location — very easy to get to and good parking. Quiet and just what we needed. A clean, spacious place that's close to Syracuse University. I am a prospective grad student and stayed at Darya's place while I explored the area.
Private space in a hall with what appeared to be other college students living there, but it was pleasantly very quiet. Thanks for a great stay! We booked the room on a short notice and Fern responded very quickly. We also arrived in the middle of the night and she welcomed us with a big smile and open arms. Thank you again for everything. If you're looking to go to Syracuse U it's a convenient place to stay. It's a 30 min walk to campus. It's a small but cozy room.
There's 4 AirBnB rooms in this place and all share the one bathroom separate from the host's. I loved that the room has so many little comfort touches!
Comfort and convenient items, open hospitality. Fern is a great host that gives a little dash of urban homesteading. Fern is a very friendly host. The only downside I could think of is there's only one bathroom on the floor sharing by 3 rooms, so we had to take turns to use the bathroom during peak hours.
Overall, we feel the place is of good value for a short stay. Fern was very welcoming and kind. Her two younger daughters are adorable. With the Workers Center, I ve picketed dairy farms that have dangerous conditions for workers, confronted restaurant owners who ve appropriated employees wages, and taken part in spirited encuentros of Spanish conversation. I know that at the Center workers can find assistance for health care and workers comp issues, and can get help with injustices based on sexism, homophobia and racism.
Its tools are community organizing, leadership development, popular education and policy advocacy. Its goals are to empower marginalized, low-wage workers to combat workplace abuses, and to improve wages and working conditions community-wide.
The Center aids a wide range of workers, from those at dairy farms and fruit orchards Minnie Bruce lives in Syracuse and is a supporter and ally of the Workers' Center of CNY. Last year, the Center celebrated its 10th anniversary it opened its doors in , sponsored initially by the CNY Labor- Religion Coalition.
Beginning with only a half-time organizer, the Workers Center has achieved many notable successes. It held the first Job Fairness event in New York to help entry-level workers understand workplace rights and the benefits of having a union.
When ICE ramped up raids on immigrant workers, the Center set up a Detention Task Force to aid workers, families and children targeted by anti-immigrant activity or hate. The Center s efforts led to certification of the first victim of human trafficking in Onondaga County. And in the Center uncovered a human trafficking ring at the Great New York State Fair, where 19 people were working in conditions close to slavery.
Nationwide protests erupted at news of these legal Mexican guest workers laboring 16 to 18 hours a day with only a minute break, and malnourished at one meal a day.
Their visa status meant they d be deported if they quit, and their boss exploited their labor accordingly. The Workers Center put a stop to that! Milk cows, not workers! In addition to campaigns against human trafficking and wage theft, the WC-CNY has focused more recently on dire conditions facing dairy farmworkers.
Center organizer Rebecca Fuentes has travelled countless days and miles to meet with isolated workers across the region. She provides Know Your Rights trainings in both Spanish and English, focused on employment law and occupational health and safety. These workers have crushing workloads.
At one mega-farm, four workers must machine-milk 4, cows during a hour shift. Monitored by camera, they are summarily fired if the boss thinks they are too slow. But the reality is that to be undocumented in this country means having to manage an ever constant fear.
And to be truthful, I am no more afraid of a Trump presidency than I have been the past eight years under President Obama. The cold reality is that despite the flowery rhetoric, President Obama amply earned the moniker deporter-in-chief by deporting an estimated 2.
He is now handing down that very efficient deportation machinery to a man who was partly elected by using openly xenophobic and racist messaging. One of Trump s close immigration advisers is Kris Kobach, the intellectual architect of the most brutal anti-immigrant pieces of legislation proposed in the past few years, and a man described by the Southern Poverty Law Center as one of the most dangerous White Nativists in the country.
So I am afraid. But paradoxically, I was less devastated by Trump s election than a lot of my friends because I have long been in a precarious situation. The tragedy of course is that many more of us will be in such a precarious space.
I pledge to fight not just for my undocumented kinfolk, but also to keep fighting for my Black, women, queer, Muslim and refugee friends who will also be at risk.
Our resistance must be intersectional or it will be ineffective. Aly Wane is an undocumented activist. Sanctuary for All A few days after our nation celebrated the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In one of his very first acts as president Donald Trump removed President Obama s webpage on civil rights and replaced it with a page entitled, Standing Up for Our Law Enforcement Community. His message to the Black community: Many of us cried that morning.
Yet, the opposition has arisen. People who had never participated in protests have flooded the streets and begun to discuss concepts like intersectionality. Syracuse declared itself a sanctuary city. As bleak as the world has become, it seems as though we might finally find each other in the dark.
It is our sincerest hope that these moments of solidarity aren t a temporary flare of conscience a burst of white guilt but something permanent. When the 10, new federal immigration agents, and 5, new border control agents Trump plans to hire come for our neighbors, we must again take to the streets, and put our bodies between those agents and the most vulnerable.
We also hope that our shared fear of fascism leads this city to declare itself a sanctuary for all of us on the margins, a sanctuary from police violence and rape culture. Let our anger at Trump force us to turn our eyes to those like him in our city. An estimated 2, came to the Syracuse demonstration on January 21 in solidarity with the Women's March on Washington.
He is a student at Onondaga Community College and works with individuals with developmental disabilities. He also volunteers many hours helping the refugee community in Syracuse.
I asked Amar how refugee families he knows have been feeling since the election. The concern of many refugee families is to get their paperwork done quickly because they are afraid of being kicked out of the US. They also fear that if they were forced to leave, they could not go back to their countries because they will be killed. Most people, when I ask them why they are here, they say they want to live in peace and have a better life for their children.
They will work at any job for a better education for their children. Have you personally noticed changes in people s behavior towards you since the election? I noticed a difference even before the election. People in public places hear my accent and react differently.
They look up when my name is called at the DMV or doctor s office. I tell my friends to be careful and to avoid trouble with people who may be suspicious of us. I tell them not to grow a long beard, or use the call to prayer app, because if it goes off in the grocery store, people nearby might say something and start trouble.
How can people who would like to be allies of the refugee community be helpful? Spend time and get to know people. It takes time to build trust and bonds between people if we don t know who you are. I am a combat Veteran of the Cold War and participated in armed conflicts.
These experiences shaped my opinion of the military and war. The next commander in chief s military experience was the making of a wealthy man s son.
Donald Trump avoided the military and war by getting deferments, four for college and one for bad feet. He played the system and saved himself from the fate of over 58, young men and women who died in Viet Nam and the countless numbers who came back broken human beings.
He went to an expensive private military academy, comparing his experience there to actually being in the military. I think he lacks understanding of what the military is and does. A person who enlists in the US military is forced to stay in for the amount of time stipulated in their contract and is severely punished for failing to follow direct orders.
Failure to do one s duty can result in death, especially while deployed to a war zone. Donald Trump could have quit his military school at any time if it became too difficult for him. Trump has chosen to surround himself with retired generals. I think the military people surrounding him will call the shots. He might just sign off on these decisions without a thought. If you want to know what actions Donald Trump might take with the military, look to the powerful people advising him and in his cabinet.

People wore their pink hats, shirts and scarves. However, as a woman of color who is a single parent, who has immigrant family members, I understood that this was not only about reproductive health.
It is also about reproductive justice. Our experiences are more than our biology. Healthcare is and should be a right, and is integral to healthy communities. Planned Parenthood will stand with immigrants, Black Lives Matter, the Muslim community, and the poor. We are this community. Coalitions are more than standing shoulder-toshoulder on one day, then going back to daily life. To attack one is to attack all.
We are providing a platform for communities to speak for themselves and to tell their own stories, so change can happen. With each new appointment, each new tweet, each refusal to acknowledge facts, the President and his staff seem to drag us farther and farther backward rather than moving us forward. For my children and grandchildren, it is difficult to present a positive outlook, but it is my role to do just that.
I talk to students about Onondaga Lake frequently. The most common question is Why would somebody do what they did to a lake? These are people like my children and grandchildren who were born since there was a Clean Water Act and an Environmental Protection Agency. Any positive point of view we bring to our current situation has to be based on how much we have accomplished and how dedicated we are to not letting anybody tear it apart.
There will be setbacks. We will need to get strength from each other just like we did a few years ago. Remember when we never thought we d get a fracking ban in New York? But we talked to our neighbors, we showed up, we spoke out, and we didn t give up.
We need to find the energy to do all of that and more. Just don t say it can t get any worse. The GOP suppressed votes by making it harder for People Of Color, elderly and students to vote in key states and Trump suppressed the vote by convincing voters to feel discouraged about the election process. Then Trump turned out his base. Trump continues to encourage state legislators to suppress the vote by falsely claiming that millions of people fraudulently voted in the election.
The truth is that voter fraud of this type is virtually non-existent. A powerful way for us to counter the Trump agenda is to pass local and state laws that make it easier, rather than harder to vote. New York is in particular in need of this reform. In defending North Carolina s voter suppression laws that were found to be specifically tailored to exclude Blacks from voting, North Carolina s attorney cited New York s laws which have no early voting no same-day registration no out-of-precinct voting and no preregistration.
Sam Rose We are working with other organizations in NYS to pass early voting and automatic voter registration.
There is also an ongoing effort to pass small-donor matching funds to empower voters to participate in elections and counter the force of wealthy donors.
Please reach out to your Assembly-member, state senator and Governor Cuomo and encourage them to support these reforms. There is also an opportunity for us to pass small-donor matching funds here in Syracuse. Given the opportunity, Republican legislators will cut and privatize Social Security, substituting k plans or similar retirement schemes for the benefits earned by working Americans.
Raise the Medicare eligibility age, cut and turn Medicare into a form of private insurance They advocate sending a smaller, fixed amount of money each year to the states in the form of block grants a move that would unquestionably cripple protections provided to nearly 70 million people, including children, people with disabilities and seniors. We know that the Congressional leaders of the richest nation in the world should be talking about expanding, not cutting, these institutions!
Katko fall in line with slashing Medicaid, dismantling Medicare? Billionaires To End Access for Students with Disabilities To say that parents, teachers and disability rights advocates are worried about how the Trump Administration will negatively impact the education of students with disabilities would be a vast understatement.
Trump s disrespect and lack of compassion was obvious in the way he mocked Serge Kovaleski. Both Trump and DeVos have proclaimed that they are advocates for school choice and see education as the last great frontier for privatization. DeVos in particular has spent her career working to increase funding for charter and religious private schools, as well as advocating for online education programs.
While school choice sounds as though it will put power back into the hands of parents, it is nothing more than coded language for dismantling and undermining public schools and working to further segregate schools by race, class and ability through the use of a voucher and admissions lottery system. None of these alternative education options requires the same oversight and regulation that public schools do.
Not surprisingly, they do little to protect the educational rights of children with disabilities. For example, private schools are not required to provide a free and appropriate education for students with disabilities. Nor are they required to follow any sort of individualized education program IEP that a student may need. Parents, teachers, and disability rights advocates are understandably afraid that under the Trump administration profits from privatized school systems will be prioritized over quality public schools that work to meet the needs of all children.
She was diagnosed with dyscalculia in elementary school. Khadijo Abdulkadir captures the crowds attention at Syracuse's federal building. I have spent the last four years helping resettlement agencies, such as Interfaith Works, as well as refugees and immigrants, with self-empowerment. Recently, we have created a support group empowering women refugees in Central New York.
The program has taught our women the skills needed to acquire and retain jobs, earn promotions, assume leadership positions in community organizations, and advocate on behalf of other refugees like ourselves. Many of the women in the Women s Empowerment Group have been motivated to finish high school and college degrees and aspire to professional careers previously unavailable to them, like those in the fields of science and technology.
Educating these women, who in my experience are the hardest working of our community, will eliminate many of the struggles we face. We have decided to take this initiative to the next level and form an official c 3 non-profit organization so that we ll be able to raise funds, obtain grants and continue to build our programs for women refugees in the community. I would appreciate your support in helping me raise funds needed to start this organization and expand it throughout our community.
I will continue to be a voice for refugees in the United States who don t have one. Taking this next step will help us gain more visibility. I am not sure there is one.
In fact, this is the first time an election has ever frightened me. Given Donald Trump s practice of union busting, and not paying contractors that have worked for him, labor will be in its biggest battle in my lifetime. Trump s cabinet selections will be horrendous not just for labor, but for all who are concerned with economic and social justice. Pudzer doesn t agree that fast food workers whom he has employed should even receive breaks.
He is also opposed to the Affordable Care Act that benefits many lower wage earners. The war on labor has been going on forever, but this now has hit a peak. How can we respond to this? The progressive community needs to keep their arms open to all, while labor goes back to its roots and helps organize itself. Labor leaders need to hit the streets and show active support for their members and others. Community alliances will be a key factor in the most significant battle of our time.
We must organize resistance and take the renewable energy revolution into our hands. Here in New York, we have an opportunity to lead the nation in renewable energy and strong climate action. And we have the responsibility to do so in a way that empowers our communities and makes them more resilient, equitable, independent and sustainable.
There are several initiatives across the state working to make sure there is a swift and just transition to local and renewable power. To get involved, check out our organizations: This property in the winter, on frozen Oneida Lake, was perfect. This almost new house was super clean!!
