Vivat Ordo Nobilissima Templi

Several vital locations used by Revelation were actually Knights Templar sites: St Michael's Mount, the island of legends off the coast of Cornwall (known as Sacred Island in our story); Rennes le Chateau and surrounding area, a Templar stronghold in SW France; and the Inner Temple in London, where the Knights had their London headquarters. Strangely, in the case of two of these locations, it was found only later that the sites were part of Templar history. Was the Order guiding us?

The Order of the Poor Knights of Christ and the Temple of Solomon was founded in 1118 during the First Crusade. Originally formed to protect pilgrims, the Templars were in effect warrior monks. The fact that their original quarters were in the grounds of the Temple to which they were devoted is linked to the origins of freemasonry. Sir Isaac Newton, reputed freemason and confirmed alchemist, wrote extensively about the sacred geometry of the Temple many centuries later.

A Papal Bull issued by Pope Innocent II in 1139 granted the Templars freedom of allegiance to anyone other than himself. As a fully functional and autonomous international empire, their power, wealth and influence grew to an extraordinary degree, forging close diplomatic and intellectual links with the Muslim kingdom.

By 1306 the King of France wanted the Order dissolved, mainly because he coveted their vast wealth, and figured the simplest way was to accuse them of heresy and witchcraft. On Friday, October 13th, 1307, all the Templars were arrested and tortured, but the fortune the King sought was never found. To this day what became of the Templars' Treasure still remains a mystery. With the ritual slow roasting over a fire of Grand Master Jacques de Molay (watch for his namesake appearing in Revelation!), the Templars vanished from the world stage soon after.

However, according to legend the Knights Templar maintained itself in secret for another four centuries thanks to key European figures in the Order escaping the merciless hounding.

When freemasonry flourished in the late middle ages, the lore and rites of the Templars were revived in secret lodges and the Templar banner was again taken up by occultists under Aleister Crowley and luminaries such as Bram Stoker and WB Yeats.

Hundreds of books in the last few decades have been dedicated to the mysteries and myths surrounding the Knights Templar, their missing treasure, the sacred geometry of their sites and related topics.
