Born in Cologne, Germany, in 1944, Udo Kier began his acting career with The Road to St. Tropez in 1966 and has been a ubiquitous fixture on international screens ever since. After appearing in the controversial shocker Mark of the Devil, his career in horror took off with the Andy Warhol produced duo Flesh for Frankenstein and Blood for Dracula. The impact of the latter film still resonates today and, in 2000, Kier was given 'The Vampire of the Millennium' award by 'Fangoria' magazine for his unique portrayal of Bram Stoker's classic character. Kier's other key films of the Seventies and Eighties include Just Jaeckin's The Story of O, Dario Argento's Suspiria and Walerian Borowczyk's The Blood of Dr. Jekyll. It was Kier's artistic relationship with German genius Rainer Werner Fassbinder that took his career to a new level. His appearances in Fassbinder's television miniseries Berlin-Alexanderplatz and the feature films Lola and Lili Marleen turned Kier into a cult icon allowing him to successfully straddle both mainstream and art-house cinema with deft aplomb Over the next two decades Kier appeared in Gus Van Sant's My Own Private Idaho and Even Cowgirls get the Blues and in Lars Von Trier's television miniseries The Kingdom and The Kingdom II, and the features Zentropa, Breaking the Waves and Dancer in the Dark.
