TERENCE STAMP - MAGNUS MARTEL
Terence Stamp was born in Bow, London. His motion picture debut was in Peter Ustinov's 1962 adaptation of Herman Melville's Billy Budd. His portrayal of the title character brought him not only an Academy Award nomination as Best Supporting Actor but also international attention. After that success, Stamp collaborated with some of the cinema's most revered filmmakers. He starred in William Wyler's The Collector opposite Samantha Eggar, Joseph Losey's Modesty Blaise with Dirk Bogarde, John Schlesinger's Far from the Madding Crowd opposite Julie Christie, and Ken Loach's feature debut Poor Cow. Stamp then made Italy his home and starred in two of the Sixties most controversial movies. He was Toby Dammit in the surreal episode of the same name for Italian maestro Federico Fellini in Spirits of the Dead, and played the lead in Pier Paolo Pasolini's Theorem with Silvana Mangano. Subsequent credits include The Mind of Mr. Soames, Superman and Superman II, The Hit, Link, Legal Eagles, The Sicilian, Wall Street, Alien Nation and The Real McCoy. Prince of Shadows, in which Stamp starred for director Pilar Miro, was awarded the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. Stamp began his fourth decade as an actor with one of his most popular roles in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert wearing some of the choicest of Lizzy Gardiner's Academy Award-winning costumes. Recent credits include Star Wars, Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, Bowfinger's Big Thing, The Limey and Red Planet. In addition to his acting career, Stamp is an accomplished writer and author. He has published three volumes of his memoirs, 'Stamp Album', 'Coming Attraction' and 'Double Feature', a novel, and a cookbook with recipes for those who are wheat and dairy intolerant.
