He's still as passionate as ever about music, and Shout! Factory's launch of The Herb Alpert Signature Series, presenting deluxe remastered editions of his classic albums, is both a salute to the past and inspiration for the future.
Herb Alpert has also proved himself a true Renaissance man with endeavors in other realms. The same passion driving his musical genius equally informs Alpert's incarnation as a visual artist, which for 35 years has paralleled his life in the recording and performing arenas. His color-saturated, abstract expressionist paintings have been shown in museums and galleries around the world, and his bold, fluid sculptures, from the miniature to the monumental, are becoming equally acclaimed.
Alpert's ongoing philanthropy has garnered a host of awards, and for almost two decades, The Herb Alpert Foundation has underwritten funding in the areas of the arts, the environment, and education. When recently asked about his musical inspiration he says, "My love for jazz is rooted in its spontaneity and its never ending search for personal truth and creative freedom. It is with that freedom that we're doing these tours, playing original arrangements of classic American standards with the color of Brasilian music scattered throughout, hopefully creating an exciting and unique musical blend without ever closing the space for spontaneity.

Herb Alpert has spent more than half his life as a respected abstract expressionist painter and sculptor, whose work has been exhibited from the U. Since he began painting in , Alpert has experimented with a number of different styles and materials, perhaps none more unusual than his current medium of choice: Alpert's sculptures, particularly his towering Black Totems series , continue to draw interest with their freedom of form and massive size, with some bronze pieces reaching 18 feet in height.
The totems were inspired by indigenous sculptural forms from the Pacific Northwest. Though Alpert's work as an abstract expressionist painter has been inspired by a number of different sources over the years, critics noted the obvious influences of American abstract expressionists, as well as the painters of the School of Paris in the 50's.
Yet Alpert cites his single greatest influence as artist Rufino Tamayo , whose work first sparked his interest in painting in Alpert's paintings and sculptures have been exhibited in museums and galleries in the U. Herb Alpert's philosophy as an artist has generally been to create from a purely internal place; "the feel,"as he calls it.
Whether its music, or painting, or sculpture, he launches in headfirst, a soloist, rolling to a rhythm he feels inside, searching for a feeling. I don't have a goal other than form. I'm looking for that form that touches me and when I find it On March 15, Alpert received the REDCAT Award for "individuals who exemplify the generosity and talent that define and lead the field of contemporary arts and culture. The sculptures would remain on display for one year.

Churchill Farm is a lovely spot in North East set amidst fields of grapes. If you have the time, the front porch is a great place to have a coffee and enjoy the quiet. Lots of good reviews We never did meet the hosts who, from the many reviews, would have been nice to meet!
Lots of folks gave this Air BnB a great review Here is what you need to know: Extremely clean and safe 2. Extremely friendly and helpful hosts 3. The shared bath worked out perfectly with zero issues - this had been our only real concern before our stay. Amazing value - about half of a basic hotel room, but much cooler! Wonderful simple farm house. Very hospitable with lots of animals to enjoy and a vineyard to walk through. We stayed at David's cabin for a weekend away and we really enjoyed ourselves.
The location is beautiful, with rolling farm land, trees and a pond. We really enjoyed the privacy. We didn't have great cell service, but that helped us disconnect from busy life even more. When we did want to check out local attractions, there are many things to do that are less than an hour away. The house itself is clearly a well-loved family retreat; it felt homey and lived-in, and lots of basic staples were there, including spices, cooking supplies, firewood, etc.
The house is very dog friendly, which was great. They have food bowls and leashes for guests to use. Our dog loved seeing the cows on the neighboring farm and if she could talk, I'm sure she'd say her favorite part was the number of good sticks to chase in the yard. Clean, private cabin with very pleasant hosts. In the woods yet close to lake chautauqua. Couldn't think of any way to improve it. Being pet friendly was a huge plus. Really enjoyed the stay!
David provided a lot of nice recommendations, and the cabin is very inviting. Felt like a home away from home. Outdoor space and privacy were great. Close drives to Erie where we took the kids to the zoo, and Bemus Point for nice meals and site seeing.
Would stay here again! We stayed with our 2 girls and dog. Place was exactly as described. The property was extremely private and peaceful. Our vizsla was in heaven being able to roam around the woods and house. The kids loved the pond and hiking in the woods. After spending the day exploring at places like Panama Rocks, it was nice to come home and relax by the fire. Highly recommend this place and we will be back soon!
Some other quick things. The hosts were extremely responsive. We also cooked most meals at the cabin and the kitchen was great to use with plenty of utensils and appliances. Good space, nice kitchen, bathrooms and the laundry area was handy.
Good books to read to our grandsons. Everyone was so happy! If you rent Rellax Inn be prepared for an enjoyable stay at an updated, clean and well maintained cottage. We spent a lot of time playing games provided by the hosts, cooking in the well-stocked kitchen, and hanging out on the front deck. The house was very cozy and comfortable, and easily accommodated the six people in our group.
Although we did not make use of it, there was a wooden deck and dock along the water, located across the street from the airbnb. This was a very comfortable and nice place to stay, and we enjoyed our time there very much.
This cottage was even better in real life than in pictures! The decor was a wonderful combination of beach cottage and lodge. It would be perfect for a summer or winter stay. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming, and the hostess very accommodating. She thought of everything in terms of amenities and extras from kitchenware and towels to games, videos, kids books, recreational toys, and a binder of local restaurants and activities.
We'd love to stay again, perhaps in winter next time. Charlotte's place is a gem. Nice homey touches and comfortable furnishings are in every room. The indoor entertainment options can't be beat. Roku TV, DVD player, big flat screen TV's in 2 separate entertaining areas, and board games make it a fun place to be on a rainy day or in the evenings after a busy day out. The beds are super comfy and there are plenty of pillows and blankets for everyone. The view of the stream with clear water and lots of fish, ducks and geese was a bonus to the breathtaking view of Lake Erie.
The sunsets were just amazing. I would highly recommend Charlotte's place and my family is already talking about visiting again.
You will not be disappointed with this house, it was absolutely perfect! We were able to enjoy time at the beach, explore local restaurants and wineries - all within minutes of the house!
We will definitely book again!! We loved our time at the Blue Heron. It's a gorgeous house in a great location. The house is large enough that even when full, there is room to spread out and not feel like you are all on top of each other.
During our time there, we fished, kayaked, biked, grilled and even had a couple of bonfires out back! I would highly recommend the Blue Heron to anyone looking for a place to stay in this area. The host is kind, responsive and provides wonderful hospitality. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others. What's not to like about the Blue Herron! My family and I stayed for 3 nights at this beautiful property.
Everything was top notch from the furnishings to the view of Lake Findlay we enjoyed every aspect of this property. We utilized the bikes that were offered, enjoyed a starry night in the backyard next to a warm and cozy campfire, and watched a storm roll in underneath the protection of the huge awning.
Each room had its own bathroom which was really awesome, plus all of the kitchen, bar, grill accessories were of high quality. You can really tell that Tobi and Mark really care about the upkeep of this property. We will think back fondly of our time at the Blue Herron and Lake Findlay!
The view of the lake, and access to the lake, was exceptional. The property is very well set up for a reasonably large family or other gathering of up to 30, or so, folks in 3 different areas.
The provided kayaks, bikes, and games were in good condition. The 4 bedrooms were clean and livable. As were the bathrooms. The ramp access and 1st foor half bath worked well for an 80 year old in a wheelchair. The Kitchen was small but adequate. You've heard of the Georgia peach? Believe it or not, you will find her in Sherman,NY! These accommodations are spectacular sleep number bed, private bath, impeccably clean with a beautiful common area, large country front porch, etc. If that wasn't enough, the breakfast is included and absolutely phenomenal!
If this place weren't so far off the beaten path, we would return year after year. Did I mention the adorable dog, Charlie? We had a wonderful stay here. Georgia was kind enough to let us check in several hours early.
We appreciated and made use of the 24 hour coffee and tea station, and were gladebof the short commute to Brushwood Folklore Center. The shower and bed were fantastic, as was the breakfast in the morning. We could not have had a better stay. If ever there was a "home away from home" it is Georgia's lovely Bed and Breakfast. Everything, really everything, was impeccable. Georgia responded immediately and during our stay she would be well reachable in case we needed something.
Her house is utmost lovely and - after a long drive- we enjoyed the evening on the porch, surrounded by the nice lawn ever so much. After a peaceful night we had the most amazing breakfast. Sherman is a tiny yet traditional village, an ideal base for day trips to Lake Erie, Lake Chataqua and the wine county. Thank you for everything, Georgia! We hope to be back soon.
Georgia is incredibly welcoming, her home is meticulously cared for, and her breakfasts are unbelievably delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sherman's Inn on Main. Georgia was a wonderful hostess. The house was immaculately clean and very nicely decorated. The breakfasts were delicious, the portions well sized, and the table beautifully decorated differently each day.
We enjoyed sitting on the large front porch and watching an Amish buggy occasionally go back and forth down the street as well as playing with Georgia's dog Charlie on the lawn. Georgia was a wonderful host. Her breakfasts are fantastic.
The house is a beautifully renovated Colonial. Has modern amenities with antique charm. Very professionally done and decorated beautifully. Every detail has been attended to. I highly recommend staying here, you will not be disappointed.
Georgia was a lovely host and the home was beautiful, clean, updated and very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and Georgia was very flexible with our arrival time. We would highly recommend staying at the Sherman Inn and hope to return soon. Our boys had an amazing time on their first ski trip and first airbnb. Your parents were great and super accommodating. Affordable and so close to the slopes. I would highly recommend this property. We really enjoyed the home.
We loved the location as it was private with a beautiful view off the spacious back deck and just a short drive to the Peek. All of my questions were promptly answered by the host and we had a very smooth check-in.
Overall, we loved our home away from home. We had a wonderful stay. Our four dogs loved the huge yard to run and play. The deck was a relaxing place to read and enjoy the sunset. We had all the comforts of home. I stayed in Monty's place for one month from the second week of July through the first week of August. This place is isolated and not very much traffic passes by. My favorite traffic was when one of the Amish buggies clipped clocked by.
The house was clean and spaces. The DirecTV offered a variety of entertainment the deck was a great place to have my morning coffee and breakfast and catch a little Sun before I went in to my business. It was about 30 miles from where I was teaching but the roads were in good shape and very little traffic on the farm roads and I was able to get to the facility where I was teaching expeditiously.
The communication between Monte and myself was prompt and complete and the check-in was as expected per hour communication. I had everything I needed in the way of cooking utensils and linens. There's a great washing machine and dryer downstairs. I just hope that this place is available the next time that I have a program in the area and will be staying for an extended period.
This was my first experience with Airbnb and Monte and his family insured that I check Airbnb now every time for a possible place to stay. I personally am a sucker for the good books I found on the shelves and the ultra fresh air one breathes at the edge of Lake Erie Great location, beautiful view of the lake, very nice home. We didn't leave the house for 3 days. Beth is a excellent host, and took care of our needs.
A quiet house on the lake. This is a nice house for a group or family looking for a 4 bedroom with an additional sofa bed in a common area.
The house is in a really great location with a fantastic view of Lake Erie. The rooms are very large and the air conditioning, kitchen are all excellent. Great family location in North East, PA.
We enjoyed exploring the area for the first time, including Presque Isle and Fisherman's Beach. House is beautiful and roomy.
Plenty of space for everyone to spread out. We ate in most nights, and kitchen is well stocked and spacious and our group easily prepared meals together. Beth is great host and answered any questions we had quickly. Her dog Abby is a friendly golden retriever, who got along very well with our group, including our dog Kermit. Don't hesitate to rent this home -- sunsets are beautiful and the location is perfect.
This was our second "annual" Mother's Day fishing trip to North East and we knew the sunsets over the lake were worth staying right on the coast. The house was the perfect solution- so much more affordable than staying in a hotel on the water in Erie.
All 9 of us had plenty of room to stretch out, and the house is stocked with plenty of linens, kitchen gear, snuggley blankets for cool evenings, books, games, a reading nook overlooking the water..
Though the weather was pretty crummy during the daytime, the sun seemed to come out each night just for us, and Beth's side porch and back yard make the perfect place for enjoying the show! The bathrooms are spacious and sparkling clean. As noted, the kitchen is fully stocked for cooking for a large group and we grilled the fish we caught on the outdoor gas grill. This is a great place for a large group to enjoy Lake Erie in comfort.
Cozy cabin in the woods. I liked the spiral staircase so the parents could stay upstairs in the master bedroom and the kids and another family could stay in two bedrooms on the first floor. Secluded and will serve fine for ski enthusiasts. Couple things to note that trash removal is on guests. This can be an issue if you have a four hour trip back home. There cabin is very simplistic with basic amenities. Great place for a ski trip.
Close to the resort but you still need to drive there. The home was very clean and instructions upon arrival and departure are clear. Good host, would stay here again.
Host is very responsive and friendly. Kitchen is well equipped. Had issues with heat during stay, central heat was not working; electric heat was unstable and fuse went off at least once.
Not suitable for senior citizens. Trundle bed too high and cramped rooms downstairs. Property around home can be better maintained cut grass, keep outside chairs clean, have a fire pit area or working grill.
The house was comfortable and amenable to a nice break and enjoyable weekend. Staying in the A-frame in February put our group a 3-minute drive away from the slopes at Peekn' Peak, which was worth its' weight in gold!
The A-frame is basic and rustic, and will serve your needs nicely for a weekend on the slopes. Upon arrival our group found the house to be swarmed in 30 or more large black flies. We killed them but dozens more kept appearing throughout the weekend.
In total we must have killed over a hundred. To his credit, Brett was very responsive and apologetic with this issue. After texting him, Brett got in touch right away and took steps to contact an exterminator. Brett even offered to refund some of our money, which we found very reasonable considering the situation.
Unfortunately, exterminators take a few days to come to the rescue, so there was very little that Brett could do in this circumstance, which is not at all his fault. The flies aside, my 3 friends and I had a very nice trip and hope to come back again! The Wilderness Lodge was perfect. A nice remote getaway but relatively close to everything. Not to mention the great food Ryan made for us too. Fred and Cindy are great hosts. They are super friendly and easy to work with.
The home is very nice and clean, and the setting is beautiful. You're pretty much surrounded by vineyards on all sides of the house.
Lots of wineries within a short driving distance. Easy access to grocery stores, restaurants, etc. Overall, we had a wonderful time and absolutely recommend this home if you're looking for a place to relax.

Cozy Victorian in Wine Country. Over the last few years, BitterSweet Retreat has been updated as a retirement getaway. It's location within Lake Erie Wine Country - and its proximity to Lake Erie and Lake Chautauqua - make it a great option for adults and families alike. The top two floors of the home have been updated with a brand new expanded bathroom on the 3rd floor , but those floors still maintain more of the original cabin feel.
The bottom floor where you enter from the driveway has been converted into an apartment for my niece who lives there during the school year. This floor was completely renovated within the last three years and has a more contemporary design in the kitchen and bath. The laundry is on this floor, too. There are two kitchens, and a propane grill for you to use. While the home is quite large, it was not designed with a full dining room. The upstairs kitchen has two stools at the counter and a four-seat table.
There is a larger table in the adjacent screened porch that seats people. I can provide a 6-foot folding table for larger groups. The home also remains cabin-like in that it does not have central-air conditioning; only the bottom floor is equipped. But the home often has a cool breeze off Lake Erie. Additionally, the home does not have wifi; most guests choose the home because they want to disconnect. Visitors typically get strong cell signals there I can vouch for Verizon , so they use cell phones whenever they need to connect to the Internet.
Guests may also enjoy exploring the large property including a small orchard or soaking in the hot tub. The home IS pet-friendly. My sister breeds and trains Golden Retrievers and Australian Shepherds, and the home has been popular with dog owners. I can provide one or two 24x36 cages, and the home has a secure, fenced area for dogs to run. We just ask that guests clean up after the dogs to keep the yard clean. Meeder's is a popular local restaurant - and customers rave over the pies.
We typically drive into Chautauqua or over to Bemus Point. Webb's is a nice restaurant with views of Lake Chautauqua. If you want to rent a boat, there's a good rental place across from Webb's. All of the wineries have a different feel. There are many options close to the house, so it's easy to hop around to find one that suits your tastes. Here are some options that you may want to explore: Resort has Skiing and Golf, Restaurants, Bars, etc.
Great Place for a Getaway This cozy condo is the perfect place for a family getaway. You are within steps of the Peek N Peak Resort facilities where you can find activities for all season including the new Soaring Eagle ride, the Zip Line and Adventure ride, miniature golf, and a PGA championship golf course on the upper hill.
